Job Title: Public Health Specialist

Job Requirements:
First university degree in medicine, public health or health related discipline.
Essential; two years’ field experience in health emergency response, health response support, public
health needs assessments, risk analysis or early recovery.
Desirable; Strong knowledge in developing and implementing public health policies and strategies in the
context of emergencies is an asset. Experience with WHO, UN or UN agency or a health cluster member
organization including the development of global strategies, guidelines and tools for health in emergency
actions.
Minimum of two years professional experience in lead management implementing emergency response
programs, preferably in a conflict setting.
English Mandatory and Arabic, too.
Strong English writing skills required.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and strategic planning skills required;
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently;
Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with strong attention to detail;
Job Description:
Contribute to the overall strategic, operational and technical coherence, including through strengthened
support to the design of programs and development of Humanitarian Response Plans.
Contribute to the technical and operational support of the health cluster/sector operations for protracted
and on-going emergencies, in line with technical standards (e.g. Sphere), best practices, protocols and
guidelines.
Support HWG coordinator, develop and setup response plans for emergency events like diseases causing
outbreaks and to response to public health needs in NES.
Provide support in conducting assessments including IPC in health facilities and community KAP surveys
on COVID-19 including coordinating with health partners.
Work with the relevant partners in the sub-working groups to update the assessments conducted and
ensure data sharing when applicable as well as update the service mapping regularly.
Tracking the response, documentation of lessons learned and adapting new ways of working based on
experience.
Contribute in capacity-building, training activities and exercises to strengthen operational capacities of
partners.
Support in development of policies, technical standards, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs), ensuring the adherence to interagency policies. And support in conducting training.
Attend HWG meetings, task forces established for outbreak response and participate actively in
discussion, sharing information/ plans and report to the HWG coordinator.
Maintain strategic relationships with health cluster partners as well as local authorities.
Follow up the technical updates including tools and protocols shared by WHO and other relevant partners
and keep updating the health partners accordingly.Provide regular (weekly) updates HWG and NES Forum (as appropriate) about key developments,
challenges and operational implications for all emergencies for which the staff member is the focal point;
contribute to the development of briefings for senior staff and to the development of communications
products.
Perform other related duties as assigned, including replacing and backstopping for others as required.
