Education / Experience Needed

▪ Minimum certificate in nursing, nutrition, or similar health field required

▪ Experience working for an NGO in health care strongly preferred

▪ Experience in health management strongly preferred

▪ Minimum 5 years working in healthcare field of specialty required, with strong preference given to those whose experience is with nutrition programming

Language

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

Job Description:

Job Summary

The Nutrition Specialist Officer(NSO) is the lead for our NES Nutrition, filling the principle role for outpatient therapeutic program (OTP) and targeted supplementary feeding programs (TSFP). The NSO is responsible for performing comprehensive physical assessments of beneficiaries and placing beneficiaries into the appropriate malnutrition treatment protocol. The NSO acts as advocate and liaison for beneficiaries. The NSO will work closely with the nutrition Community Health Worker Team Lead (CHW TL) community health workers (CHWs), medical staff, program beneficiaries, and the families of beneficiaries, to provide nutrition education and ensure adherence to the nutrition standard operating procedures (SOP).

The NSO must be a mature, experienced professional, capable of critical thinking, problem solving, experienced in providing detailed physical assessments, attuned to changes in physical status, evaluating clinical progression, capable of making decisions to refer patients to in-patient care, and scheduling and coordination of beneficiary consultations with the necessary specialists. This position requires thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of malnutrition and appropriate treatments.

The NSO is a diverse and demanding position, and requires an individual who is self-driven, motivated, organized, and capable of multi-tasking. The NSO will attend relevant cluster meetings when the HPM is unable to attend and communicate closely with the HPM, our Nutrition Program colleagues, and other health actors. Excellent communication skills are required to excel in this role. This position requires commitment and understanding of our Mission and Statement of Faith, as well as agreement and compliance with our statement of faith and policies.

Key Responsibilities

General-

 Be prepared to work within rural villages, IDP Camps, and PHC locations in Hassakeh Governorate, and to relocate at short notice.

 Work closely with all members of the health team to provide the highest possible quality of care for beneficiaries.

 Maintain confidentiality for all beneficiaries.

Technical-

▪ Has an excellent working understanding of NES treatment protocols and policies.

▪ Can assist in refining of our malnutrition SOPs to NES context

▪ Provides physical assessments of beneficiaries, subsequently placing them into the appropriate treatment regimen

▪ Assist CHW Team Lead with the monitoring and evaluation of the program, collecting beneficiary feedback obtained by the CHWs to ensure the quality of program is maintained.

▪ Collect weekly and monthly reports to meet the reporting requirements and deadlines set by our, Health Committee, WHO/UN agencies and Donors. Send these reports to HPM.

▪ Regularly communicates with the CHW Team Lead and HPM to relay general flow, success, and challenges of the program.

▪ Provides nutrition education to our Nutrition Team, PHC physicians, and beneficiaries

Staff Management –

 Not a supervisory role

Security –

 Adhere to our security management plan

 Report any security incidents or concerns to HPM or security personnel immediately

Communication and Coordination –

▪ Interpret as necessary between Arabic/Local language and English for the HPM and other staff.

▪ Coordinate and Liaise with members of our health management team and our Operations Team to ensure all objectives of the nutrition program are met.
