Duty Station: Hassakeh, and flying between projects in North East of Syria

Job Requirements:

Education • Essential degree in Law, Humanitarian affairs, Political Sciences, Social Science or related university degree.

Experience • Essential previous working experience of at least two years in research, analysis and advocacy, or protection.

  • Essential experience with other INGOs, NGOs, or civil society organizations.

Knowledge • Essential computer proficiency (word, excel and internet).

  • Good writing / research / analytical skill

Language • English and Arabic language essential.

  • Kurdish language preferable.

Job Description:

Accountabilities

  • Perform data collection and research concerning local context, with regards to medical, nutritional and humanitarian issues and needs of the population in projects areas in order to provide reliable information for further decision-making.
  • Overseeing and managing various documentation tools and data collection related to humanitarian affairs in the projects, participate in the reviewing of these tools and the development of new ones according to identified needs. Organize trainings for identified Organization staff on data collection tools to ensure consistency.
  • Support the project coordinators and advocacy manager in the analysis of the data collected in order to better orientate the programmes and projects and to respond effectively to the needs of the population.
  • Collaborate with the project coordinator, advocacy manager and any other relevant parties to develop and implement of local advocacy strategy, and to participate in the development of coherent global advocacy strategy to address the humanitarian situation.
  • Define and review messages, tools, lobbying activities and other advocacy action plan and strategies in order to raise all humanitarian issues in the projects and mission, and seek assistance and protection to affected population.
  • Monitor the response of other agencies and document shortcomings, and regularly update on ongoing activities and plans by NGOs and the UN, local authorities and any other humanitarian and medical actors present in the projects intervention areas.
  • Contribute to the integration of humanitarian affairs into the projects’ activities and work closely with the medical team.
  • Organize discussions, trainings, briefings, etc. about human rights and humanitarian law issues and current and future advocacy activities, in order to raise awareness of the Organization staff regarding these matters.
  • Ensure smooth working relationship with local authorities, other NGOs, local communities and other factors, in order to facilitate the Organization teams a better access to the population and improve the Organization activities’ coordination with third parties.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and coordinate with the advocacy manager and the project coordinators in defining, developing and implementing advocacy and protection strategies for the projects.
  • Ensure good relationship with projects’ area protection actors in order to identify plans, future planning and gaps, as well as to support protection referrals.
  • Provide functional support to the Social Workers (Al Hol)
  • Collaborate and support medical team in identifying and reporting of protection concerns and cases.
  • Coordination with medical department on data collection.
  • Verify and analyze humanitarian data gathered by the Organization and other actors and produce summaries, briefings, and talking points to advance advocacy objectives at project level and feed into mission level advocacy.

Job Purpose:

 Contribute in the development of humanitarian affairs activities by supporting the different project teams in the following area: analysis of the humanitarian situation context, supporting definition of advocacy strategies and implementation of strategies and activities of advocacy and witnessing, according to the organization’s policies and values, in order to improve the humanitarian and human rights situation among population
