CONTEXT

We are a private, non-profit international medical humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. To support our operations across North East Syria, we are currently looking for the following position:

Job Purpose:

Participate in the planning, supervision and coordination of mental health / pycho-social related services in the programme in accordance with organizational standards in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients.

Accountabilities:

 

·       Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in Mental Health programs and activities with in organization.

·       Coordinates activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like COH and NGOs) on mental health matters, including referral services.

·       Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to organization’s protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psycho social needs

·       Liaise with the other team members of the project.

·       Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required

·       Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning.

·       When needed, give psychological support to patients according to organization’s protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality.

·       Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity manager

·       Offer clinical counselling supervision to mental health counsellors in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

 

·       Collaborates closely with medical team to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to the treament of patients and to promote adherence to treatment with the support of MHAM.

·       Monitors internal and external referral system on regular basis and assists MHAM in the strengthening of the same as per the needs.

·       Identifies training needs, plans and provides mental health trainings, clinical supervision sessions, guidance and coaching to counsellors and ensures quality of care as per organizations standards with the support of MHAM.

·       Prepares work roster and ensures that care is available to the beneficiaries in all project locations as per the guidelines.

·       Organises and conducts mental health training sessions for healthcare workers and other relevant staff members in different project locations with the support of MHAM.

·       Ensures that the mental health team understands the proper use of all the standard mental health tools, files, and other documents for data collection and data entry through training from MHAM and other relevant trainers.

·       Monitors and regulates indivudal caseload of counselors on daily basis as per the organization’s guidelines.

·       Ensures that all patient files are timely and appropriately opened, updated and closed by the counsellors.

·       Monitors defaulters/missed appointments and implements appropriate strategies to reduce the dropout rate with the support of MHAM.

·       Collects and compiles the clinical data on daily, weekly and monthly basis, and assists MHAM in preparation of relevant reports.

·       Follows the ethical standards of Mental Health Professionals and safeguards the rights of the beneficiaries.

·       Develops creative and impactful mental health or related IEC (information, education and communication) material and participates in the IEC activities with the support of MHAM.

·       Prepares Supervision Report including all the supervisory activities, achievements, challenges and future plans and shares with the MHAM on weekly basis.

·       Uses the tools like Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint for communication, record-keeping and training purposes.

·       Keeps the MHAM informed about all the developments related to work and seeks support from the Line Manager.

·       Performs any other task relevant to the position as given by the MHAM or other acting manager in the absence of MHAM.

Requirements
Education Master’s Degree in Psychology or an equivalent degree is essential.
Experience Minimum experience of 2-year in mental health counselling is essential. Minimum 1-year of experience as supervisor or team leader of Counsellors or other mental health professionals is desirable. Previous experience of working with an NGO is an asset.
Knowledge Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)
Language Good command over spoken and written English is essential. Fluency in Arabic and/or Kurdish language is essential.
