Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in horticulture, Agriculture Engineering or Agriculture extension services
  • A minimum of 1 year’s practical experience in the implementation of Food Security & livelihood project focusing mainly on gardening (home gardening or kitchen gardening)
  • Working knowledge on horticulture or gardening techniques and conservational agriculture are required. Experience on vegetable production under greenhouse would be a plus
  • Prior NGO/INGO experience of one year minimum
  • Experience from working as FSL/gardening Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Experience in community mobilization/sensitization
  • Experience in implementation of emergency/recovery agricultural activities
  • Experience with implementation of project start-up (area targeting and beneficiary selection process)
  • Experience in in-kind distribution (Gardening materials)
  • Communication skills with relevant LA and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of MS Office Package, Skype, outlook
  • Knowledge of English (written, speaking) – as an advantage
  • Good understanding of the security context
  • Proactive and motivated
  • To travel between HASSAKE and RAQQA offices considering that the organization have targets in both districts

Job Description:

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

List of main tasks:

DIAGNOSTIC AND PROJECT CONCEPTION

  • In collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability (MEAL) team, take part in the identification of villages and stakeholder mapping where work is to be carried out.
  • Conduct focus groups discussions and fill in the related collection tools.
  • Participate in beneficiaries’ needs identification and the selection of the beneficiaries.
  • Communicate with the community as per the strategy defined by the management and make sure that the projects and the selection criteria are well understood and accepted by the communities.
  • In collaboration with WASH, Shelter and MEAL teams conduct sensitization activities with beneficiaries.
  • Report any relevant additional information collected or observed in the field that could be of relevance for the decision making and the implementation of the activities.
  • Participate to analysis of the local environment and understand needs, requests, technical or contextual limitations that might have an impact on the field operations.
  • Ensure that activities under his/her responsibility are followed up.
  • Participate in consultancy missions.

IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATIONAL FOLLOW-UP

Under instruction of the Supervisor:

  • Carries out the activities as defined in weekly meetings with the line management, and as per the work plan communicated.
  • Support the preparation of BoQs, Purchase Link (PL) when requested.
  • Ensure accurate follow-up and monitoring of the activities in the field, using the SI’s standards and tools and provide technical support to beneficiaries, if needed.
  • Anticipate difficulties in the carrying out of the activities, propose adjustments according to the field understanding and the possible feedbacks from the community.
  • Participate in designing SoP and tools for the implementation and follow-up of gardening activities.
  • Create Vegetable Producers Business Groups (VPBGs) or Farmer Field School (FFS).
  • Organize preliminary meetings with the VPBGs groups to allow them to identify their gardening activities problems, rank and identify potential solutions following the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method in identifying the specific training needs among the beneficiaries.
  • Participate in quality and quantity checks of the goods/services requested from local suppliers.
  • Facilitate inputs distribution in the field, and fill the documents needed.
  • Take part in logistical and administrative organization, planning, and preparation of gardening inputs distributions.
  • Ensure the good stock in/out of the inputs.
  • Communicate with anticipation to the Supervisor on the needs that engage the support department.
  • Ensure that each registered, identified beneficiary has benefited from gardening inputs distribution.
  • Update the distribution follow-up and confirm the number of HHs which benefited, and the quantity of good distributed.
  • Train Vegetable Producers Business Groups (VPBGs) and making sure that the beneficiaries install and use the distributed materials/tools (greenhouse, drip irrigation and gardening farming tools) on a proper way.
  • Provide Climate technical theoretical and practical Smart Agricultural (CSA) knowledge, attitude, and practices training.
  • Ensure positive relationship and good communication practices with different support department.
  • Ensure the data collected and reports are safely archived/handed to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the management of daily workers in the field if any and report any specific related issue to the Supervisor.
  • Establish safety and security measures for each activity and ensure that these rules are respected by workforce under his/her supervision and by beneficiaries.

REPORTING / COMMUNICATION

  • Keep monitoring tools and file archived at the organization international office.
  • Participate in the drafting of reports (distribution reports, weekly reports).
  • Take part in seminars, training, workshop relating to gardening activities and to goal attainment.
  • Report to Supervisor on the progress of activities and specific tasks assigned, problem encountered, the quality of relations with beneficiaries.
  • Analyse the humanitarian situation, taking protection problems into consideration/Do no Harm to the population.
  • Collaborate with local administration and authorities.
