Job Title: Program Officer – Nutrition

Job Requirements:
Essential:
- Medical university degree (doctor, pharmacist, nurse) with at least one year experience in the similar role preferably in an INGO; or at least three years of work experience in similar role in INGO for none medical graduates.”
- Knowledge of child nutrition, with focus on infant and young child feeding practices, like breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and a willingness to learn;
- Demonstrable commitment to promoting and supporting optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding;
- Excellent communication and counselling skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all beneficiaries and their carers
- Capacity to keep accurate records of activities and report in a timely manner
- Proven ability to work as part of a team;
- Highly motivated, active, self-starter who can take initiative.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in the school and community.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills and capacity to maintain relations with community leaders, community member members, children and youth.
- Strong understanding of the situation of children (girls and boys) in rural and urban communities.
- Excellent understanding of the complexity of local governance structures in NE Syria and other local stakeholders
- Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources.
- Fluent in Arabic and English, written and spoken. Kurdish is an advantage.
- Commitment to and understanding of NGO’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
- Very good Computer skills ( Words, excel, outlook)
Desirable
- Proven experience in counselling or community awareness raising
- Qualification as a trainer of trainers in breastfeeding counselling
Familiarity with the Operational Guidance on IYCF-E and SPHERE standards
Job Description:
- KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Makes sure that CMAM program is implemented according to the WHO protocol i.e. application of the admission and discharge criteria, closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement,
- Makes sure that the Nutrition staff have adequate training on the management of acute malnutrition per national manual/protocol,
- Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products for program implementation at health facility level.
- Facilitates the basic/refresher trainings, workshops, review meetings, community forums under the project
- Conduct regular checklist based supportive supervision on targeted health facilities.
- Facilitate joint monitoring visits /joint supportive supervisions/ in integration with Nutrition Coordinator and Nutrition Specialist.
- Generates’ and share supervision reports and feedbacks for Nutrition coordinator and follow and ensures, action taken by all responsible parties on gaps identified during supervision
- Working with the Nutrition assistants to ensure PLW with difficulties are referred to IYCF services.
- Establish Mother-to-Mother support group and Father to Father support group.
- Supports referral linkage of malnourished children of in between CMAM programs (OTP, SC and TSFP),
- Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies for each health facilities, input in to creation and maintenance of a monthly distribution plan and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned with Nutrition project coordinator and logistics team,
- Plan and organise OTP/TSFP at designated distribution sites in liaison with Nutrition coordinator,
- Organizes monthly report of OTP report on time to the Nutrition coordinator and provide updates when needed,
- Manages the stock levels of therapeutic products, and all other materials and alert the logistics in a timely manner as more materials are required,
- Collect, analyse and share data’s required for monitoring quality of CMAM programs based on SPHERE standards (average weight gain, average length of stay); contribute to month report/ writes reports
- Reports any problems in a timely manner to the Nutrition coordinator,
- Control and facilitate vehicle movement within the project area in the field.
- Performs other related tasks as required
Human resource management
- Responsible for line management of the Nutrition assistant – ensuring clearly defined work plan liked to performance annual goal, monitoring of performance through completing D2P (develop to perform) processes within deadline including addressing identified development goals; .
- Follow up staff attendance, leaves, and coverage during leave for the staff under her supervision.
- Ensure regular feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process when needed.
- Identify unsatisfactory performance, support improvement; support disciplinary measures application if needed.
- Follow up on Educators recruitment, contract and payment.
Other
- Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
- Comply with the organization policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
- In agreement with line manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).
