A medical organization is looking for a Position of MHPSS Supervisor – Amuda & Al Hasaka

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The main objective of this position is to manage and provide supervision to the MHPSS component of the project currently implemented by the organization in north east Syria (supporting the delivery of high quality MHPSS interventions responding to the population needs in line with the IASC MHPSS guidelines. The MHPSS Manager is involved in ongoing supervision of MHPSS activities and staff, and in enhancing integration of MHPSS with medical activities, and coordination with relevant sectors and stakeholders to work towards a holistic and integrated MHPSS response. He/she will coordinate with the partner(s) in the base and the Health Facility supported to identify and perform technical support and capacity building (preparation of training content and facilitation as required), monitoring of MHPSS activities implemented and ensure adherence to the MDM protocols and guidelines. The MHPSS Supervisor will report to the MHPSS Coordinator technically and administratively to the Field Manager.  He/she will be line manager for Mental Health Officer.

TASKS DESCRIPTION:

Projects management:

  • You will contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring compliance with MDM safety rules at the site, and will transmit all information relating to safety concerns to the security department.
  • You will contribute to the development of new interventions on the basis of identified needs.
  • Contribute to the project proposals development in terms of implementation of activities by providing MHPSS input based on the needs assessment and the analysis of the MHPSS data collected from the supported facilities.
  • Collect data, indicators, conduct surveys and assessments according to the mission’s needs, provide input and contribute to analysis.
  • With the support of the MHPSS coordinator, he/she will perform MHPSS need assessments, as requested.
  • Be responsible to ensure, at the field level, that high quality MHPSS services are implemented according to IASC guidelines and MDM protocols.
  • Close coordination with Medical team to ensure smooth integration of MHPSS component into the PHCCs.
  • Ensure the MHPSS program is gender inclusive and all receive same services regardless of ethnicity, disability, age, race, religion and other vulnerabilities.
  • Coordination with Primary Health Care (PHC) team and other service providers to work towards a holistic and integrated MHPSS response.
  • Link with other agencies and sectors both local and international organizations in the area of operation to ensure effective referrals as necessary.
  • Work very closely with the Medical Manager.

Technical Management:

  • He/she is will provide technical supervision to all the MHPSS staff and ensure the activities are implemented as per donor requirements.
  • Support and build capacity of LHA staff and conduct relevant trainings for MHPSS staff and selected medical and non-medical staff, including on identification and management of MHPSS related complaints, on community-based psychosocial interventions and other relevant topics to Mental Health and Psychosocial support.
  • Provide on the job training and on the job supervision, individual and group supervision at MHPSS LHA staff, regularly on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct team meeting with MHPSS LHA team, with the participation of the partner when needed.
  • Prepare and present program reviews for MHPSS at the base level. This may be done together with the medical teams.
  • Support the MHPSS Coordinator and participate in the recruitment process of the MHPSS teams in the PHCs
  • You will ensure compliance of activities falling under your responsibility with logistical and administrative procedures

Reporting

  • Work together with the data Officer on morbidity data for implemented services; review; analyse and submit to the MHPSS coordinator.  Use the data to prepare the monthly reports
  • Work with the Program Coordinator and give technical inputs for program reports to be shared with the donors and the HQ regularly as requested in order to ensure the quality of the interventions and track implementation.
  • Provide a monthly reports for the MHPSS program to the Field Manager and MHPSS Coordinator, detailing activities done, supervision, training given, assessments undertaken by filling the appropriate forms.
  • Report PHC visit feedbacks and any security related issues to Field Manager and MHPSS Coordinator.
  • You will ensure proper implementation and monitoring of MHPSS program.

External Communication

  • He/she supports the Health Coordinator and/ or the Field Coordinator and/or attends and represents MdM in MHPSS technical meetings and workshop, whenever is requested.
  • You will represent the MDM before local authorities and local actors involved in the implementation of MHPSS, Health, GBV, Protection programs when called upon
  • Maintain regular contacts with other MHPSS NGOs and organizations, through meetings, training, workshop.
  • Attend technical team meetings.
  • Ensure the updated assessment and services mapping, in the areas under his/her responsibility.
  • Conduct, in cooperation with Medical team, and the participation of the partners, team meetings in PHC’s.
  • For any external communication with other INGOs, partners and HQ always contact the Field Manager, MHPSS Coordinator and or the NESCO. Ensure to follow the right protocol to avoid misrepresentation of the Organization.

Other

  • Keep MDM team informed on any issues related to logistics and HR to the Field Manager involving   the relevant departments.
  • Translate verbally and by written when necessary documents.
  • Participate in internal meetings.
  • Report any HR issues to the line manager. Resolving team conflicts by actively involving HR coordination.

Any other related MDM tasks as assigned by technical supervisor and line manager.

Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Counselling or clinical Psychology, social sciences, Education degree or relevant studies, with experience doing clinical and psychosocial work locally in NES, dealing with GBV, Child or general Protection, MHPSS. Have very good understanding of MHPSS and protection issues and interventions.
  • Good experience in supervisory activities – counsellor support supervision, training, team mentorship and leadership.
  • Ability to keep confidentiality of sensitive issues about staff and the organization
  • Respect all Coordinators and Supervisors and colleagues without showing partiality to only the MHPSS teams
  • Someone with great intrapersonal skills (self aware, emotionally stable and able to control his/her emotions not to affect the people around them negatively)
  • Team player with great interpersonal skills
  • Able to take personal care of own mental health know when to take a break to avoid burnout
  • Ability to work quickly, under pressure, and with short deadlines
  • Necessity to manage priorities and to adapt them according to the context.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); Arabic and Kurdish mother tongue.
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Package (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Flexibility, reactivity, anticipation, adaptability.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good computer and reporting skills.
  • Good communication skills. Ability to convey messages to other team members in a calm and respectful manner.
