Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Education (required):

  • University degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related mental health discipline;
  • Previous experience with international or local NGOs;
  • Experience in direct MHPSS service provision and working directly with humanitarian beneficiaries;
  • Experience providing MHPSS services, including peer support groups, to survivors of torture and war violence strongly preferred.
  • Able to handle confidential and sensitive information;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills;
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills, with the ability to proactively problem solve and find solutions;
  • Demonstrates initiative and is comfortable working in a group, as well as independently;
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and humanitarian values;
  • A strong commitment to human rights and to international standards relating to human rights, including gender equality and child protection;
  • Proven ability to calmly, professionally, and successfully manage multiple priorities;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation concepts;
  • Experience with Windows platform, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.;
  • Ability to reside in Baghdad or Basra and travel within the NES region;

Job Description:

The MHPSS worker will be based in Qamishli with potential travels to regions of northeastern Syria. The MHPSS worker will work under the administrative supervision of the Project Manager (PM) and the technical supervision of the MHPSS/CM TA. S/He will provide advanced MHPSS services and advanced care for Child protection, gender-based violence, and urgent and sensitive cases. The worker will ensure participant-centered services are provided, ensuring proper safety planning and referrals are provided when needed. The worker will assist with program implementation, ensuring that MHPSS activities will be implemented in top-notch technical standards, in line with the project work plan, and under HAI and the donor’s standards and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Project Technical Implementation Support [80%]:

o   Perform proper and detailed MHPSS needs assessment and/or case studies of target participants;

o   Develop plan for addressing client needs based on developed treatment plan;

o   Provide direct individual and/or group MHPSS interventions to survivors of War victims and their family members;

o   Providing technical and clinical support and supervision to partners

o   Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment;

o   Refer clients if needed to specialists or to other institutions for other kinds of services using the referral pathways.

o   Establish and facilitate peer support groups among target participants;

o   Initiate requests for assistance or guidance from Supervisor/s to address issues affecting adherence to professional standards.

o   Actively engage in and prepares for reflective clinical supervision

o   Serve program participants without regard to ethnicity, gender, religion or income and abide by basic human rights principles while conducting activities associated with this position.

o   Establish and maintain a confidential, professional therapeutic relationship with participants

o   Encourage and contribute to a safe and collaborative working environment where self-care as well as care of colleagues is prioritized.

o   Adhere to professional best practice clinical guidelines and procedures developed by the organization.

o   Mainstream protection in all activities.

o   Assess and report on the progress of participants and make corrective actions when necessary.

o   Maintain participant case records and documentation of services and referrals provided to participants.

o   Collaborate closely with MHPSS/CM TA to ensure that MHPSS components of the program are delivered with a high standard of quality and in line with relevant international best MHPSS practices and principles of trauma-informed care.

o   Participate in advocacy, crisis intervention, and problem solving for program participants;

o   Conduct awareness sessions and mental health education and promotion activities;

o   Uphold ethical principles in all aspects of work with participants;

o   Establish and maintain a relationship with a client that is professional and confidential;

o   Report progress of participants and make corrective actions when necessary;

o   Participate in client file reviews to ensure that client case record is complete;

o   Encourage and contribute to a safe and collaborative working environment where self-care as well as care of colleagues is prioritized.

o   Project Administrative Implementation Support / Communication [20%]:

o   Reporting: Submit regular reports to the project manager/the MHPSS/CM TA “Technically” about MHPSS activities and assist in the development of monthly and other periodic reports.

o   Collect and document feedback from the field on the implementation of the methodology, including challenges and lessons learned. And regularly monitor the needs of targeted populations and ensure the technical appropriateness of the response. And Support and coordinate the mapping of resources and referral options useful to respond to needs at different levels.

o   Collaborate closely with project team to continuously assess status of services implementation against project work plan and implement appropriate steps to ensure project is on track in meeting deliverables.

o   Internal Coordination: Collaborate with Multidisciplinary teams within HAI to ensure that available for MHPSS activities in a timely manner (internal referral pathways, joint assessments, collaboration in the field).

o   Ensure compliance with HAI policies and protocols of confidentiality, respect and safety.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside, lawyers, social workers, and CM teams.

  1. Visit field: To carry out the tasks and duties of the above position, the position may require 90 % travel to various project locations or travel to the governorates of the Kurdistan Region

Other duties, as assigned by PM and the Sr. MHPSS Coordinator required by the interest of the project within the framework of the duties of the position.
