An international organization is looking for a Position of

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) officer

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support officer will be responsible for insuring quality implementation MHPSS program activities through regular monitoring of activities, training, and supportive supervisions of the MHPSS team of LHA.  She/he will be responsible to make sure that to implementation of activities are in accordance with MDM’s policies and protocols, international guidelines (like ISAC, MHPSS MSP, PSEAH), and the needs of targeted population in collaboration with other members of the mental health and medical team.

Insuring quality data collection and timely reporting of activities is one of the many responsibilities of the MHPSS data officer. The MHPSS officer will also work in close coordination with support teams like admin and logistic team to meet the logistic and administrative needs of the MHPSS program (like identifying supply of stocks, regular monitoring of stocks to avoid stock outs, raising timely procurement requests, checking of items, supporting LHA in recruitment of staff….).

TASKS DESCRIPTION:

Technical

  • Provide training and on the job coaching to LHA MHPSS (Psychologist, Case Managers, and Community Health Workers) according to MdM guidelines and protocols.
  • Participate in the regular update of mapping services of all MHPSS actors, Health actors and Protection actors.
  • Regularly assess the MHPSS needs of the community and provide recommendations and way forwards to address meet needs.
  • Lead and actively participate in mapping of services, community, and facility level assessments in collaboration with MDM and LHA team.
  • Participate in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of activities in close cooperation with MHPSS coordinator and MHPSS Supervisor.
  • Enhance integration of MHPSS activities within the health sector by providing basic MHPSS training (like PFA, PSEAH, and GBV areas) to health staff and facilitate internal referrals.
  • Assist MHPSS coordinator and MHPSS supervisor in planning, developing and designing IEC materials.
  • Coordinate and maintain cooperation with CBOs and other community-level institutions, such as local and religious leaders, mosques, churches, and schools, youth and women centers etc.

Liaison and coordination

  • coordinate and liaison with key community stakeholders, CBO, and INGOs in the specified locations
  • Where requested keep stakeholders informed of project activities involving them.
  • Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of PSS/BCC services.
  • Maintain records of concerns and feedback from beneficiaries regarding the MHPSS service and communicate to the MHPSS supervisor and MEAL officer.
  • Participate in internal meetings and external coordination platforms representing MDM.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of MHPSS both facility and community level activities.
  • Follow up, monitor, and evaluate MHPSS activities conducted, including making recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure accurate and confidential record keeping of MHPSS clients by organizing regular case documentation supportive supervisions.
  • Support the M&E team with implementing KAP or other surveys.
  • Ensure and update the statistical MHPSS tools and monitoring data about mental health activities collected by MHPSS LHA staff with the collaboration of Data officer.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly analysis of MHPSS data regarding training and technical support.
  • Inform the MHPSS supervisor and Coordinator about any issues or problems that may arise related to the service provided to the PHC’s regarding MHPSS.
  • Participate in satisfactory surveys and other activities that may be requested by MdM MHPSS program coordinator.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports regarding the activities conducted.
  • Update share point for the activities he/she provides.

Teamwork

  • Work with team spirit with all MHPSS MdM programs and support staff.

Cooperation with other departments

  • Fulfill HR obligations.
  • Cooperate with logistics department whenever required.

  • He or she is aware of the social and political situation and keeps information up to date.
  • Passes on all relevant information related to MdM scope of action and context.
  • Advises on various topics (culture, economy, politics, etc.)

Other responsibilities

  • Any other duties as requested by line manager, relevant to the scope of the work.
  • Uphold MDM’s values and contribute to the wellbeing of the team as an active member.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in psychology, community Health, Social Sciences, public health, environmental health or any other relevant field with relevant work experience and training certificates in MHPSS areas
  • At least 2 years’ experience in counselling including trauma counselling
  • Experience supporting a team in counselling support supervision
  • Experience in training and capacity building of the team
  • Experience working with INGO
  • Fluent in local language (spoken and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Basic English
