Blumont is looking to hire 3 Protection Assistants for BHA SAFER III Program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in North East Syria:

  • One in Mahmoudly Camp
  • One in Twehiniya Camp
  • One in Tel Saman Camp.

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Gender and protection assistant under direct supervision of the Gender and Protection officer, is responsible for supporting protection and gender mainstreaming practices; and leading activities that support gender equality, enhance protection of community members, and raise their awareness on key GBV and protection topics. The Gender and Protection Assistant will support the Gender and Protection Officer to deliver gender and protection mainstreaming trainings, including referral pathways to Blumont staff and other key community stakeholders in the areas of implementation support community mobilizers to deliver awareness raising sessions on gender, protection and GBV risk mitigation topics in the community centers and through outreach.  leads the preparations for special days celebrations. Gender and Protection Assistant will also be working as a referral focal point for Blumont in camps, out of camps and or collective centers and for referring/receiving the protection cases from/to the relevant service provider in the respective locations.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Provide advice and support to the Project Team to ensure that all project activities are implemented with gender sensitive and protection-integrated approaches, with the needs of women, girls, boys, and men considered.
  • Support the programme team on establishing a gender-sensitive accountability and referral mechanism for beneficiaries.
  • Ensure close interaction with the M&E team and provide assistance in data collection, compiling lessons learned, establishing indicators to support knowledge sharing.
  • Working as a referral focal point for Blumont, receiving and referring all the protection cases to the relevant service provided in the region.
  • Build up a collaborative network of peers, government agencies and local NGOs engaged in issues related to gender/protection and coordinate and collaborate on research, programming, and advocacy.
  • Support Gender and Protection Officer in preparing training materials and providing trainings for project staff on gender and protection mainstreaming.
  • Assist in providing group sessions on gender equality, GBV, protection topics and other NGOs providing services in the region.
  • Providing door to door awareness raising on gender, GBV, child marriage and all other protection related topics.
  • Provide weekly work plans and report to supervisor outlining caseload and movements.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community structures and service provider.
  • Identify and report success stories.
  • Perform other duties, as required by the gender and protection supervisors.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications and Education:

  • Diploma/bachelor’s degree in social science, Economics, or relevant field is required.

Experience and skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in protection /Gender Positions Preferably in Humanitarian NGOs.
  • knowledge of gender and protection in humanitarian and resilience settings, including gender-based violence, humanitarian policy issues, and their linkage with Food assistance, NFIs, WASH and CCCM.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Excellent English and Arabic languages (writing and speaking) are required.
  • Good reporting skills.
