Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, hydrology engineering or any relevant field.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering field and 2-year experience in humanitarian organisations.
  • Previous experience of emergency WASH program implementation
  • The emergency WASH includes water trucking for IDPs, rehabilitation of water systems/points, WATSAN facilities at community/institutional level,
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children and their families in the community.
  • Strong understanding of water, sanitation and hygiene situation in the community
  • Proven technical knowledge and skills in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene promotion
  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and work long hours.
  • Very good computer skills (MS Office, including Outlook for email). AutoCAD knowledge is an advantage
  • Strong Kurdish/Arabic skills, written and spoken.Very good English skills, written and spoken

  • Commitment to  and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches

Job Description:

  • Provide technical support and actively participate in WASH needs assessments.
  • Prepare all technical documentation (eg – technical drawings, BOQ etc) related WASH program activities, including support to education, protection and nutrition teams for WASH related BOQs, when necessary.
  • Supervising and controlling construction and rehabilitation activities by contractors as well as repairs undertaken by the beneficiaries themselves.
  • Ensure correct construction control and work completion measurements are in accordance with plans approved by the responsible engineer.
  • Provide technical support to beneficiaries when necessary.
  • Correctly fills in the inspection papers used to monitor the progress of construction / WASH upgrade and other rehabilitation works.
  • Liaise with MEAL for setting up community feedback mechanism and also for strong monitoring of activities.
  • Actively participate in capacity building trainings, workshops and seminars organized by the organization.
  • Daily reports to the WASH Officer on progress, technical challenges and lessons learned identified in the field.
  • Ensure that WASH activities are carried out in accordance with the organization’s standards and planning as well as any local laws.
  • Coordinate with the WASH Officer and Supply Chain team to ensure timely completion of procurement procedures, including technical evaluation, of construction/rehabilitation works.
  • Ensure that activities are in line with the organization’s policies.
  • Work with the WASH specialist and technical advisor to conduct risk assessments, develop case studies and assess adherence to quality standards.
  • Any other task related to the position as requested by supervisors.
