Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in either Veterinary Science or Animal Husbandry/Animal Science
  • A minimum of 1 years of experience in the implementation of livestock/animal husbandry or livestock distribution activities
  • Prior NGO/INGO experience of one year minimum
  • Working knowledge on animal husbandry, animal health services are required. skilled in vaccination, treatment of animal injuries would be a plus
  • Experience from working as animal husbandry/livestock officer in a Humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience on distribution (livestock and feeding kits)
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile context
  • Experience in community mobilization/sensitization
  • Experience in implementation of emergency/recovery agricultural activities
  • Experience in implementation of project start-up (area targeting and beneficiary selection process)
  • Communication skills with relevant Local Authorities and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of MS office package and e-mailing
  • Knowledge of English (written, speaking) as an advantage
  • Good understanding of the security context
  • Pro-Active and motivate
  • To travel between Hasskah and Raqqa offices (if needed) considering that the organization have targets in both governorates

Job Description:

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DIAGNOSTIC AND PROJECT CONCEPTION

  • Under the supervision of Food Security & Livelihood Supervisor and in collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability (MEAL) team, take part in the identification of villages and stakeholder mapping where work is to be carried out.
  • Conduct focus groups discussions and fill in the related collection tools.
  • Participate in beneficiaries’ needs identification and the selection of the beneficiaries
  • Communicate with the community as per the strategy defined by the management and make sure that the projects and the selection criteria are well understood and accepted by the communities
  • In collaboration with WASH, Shelter and MEAL teams conduct sensitization activities with beneficiaries
  • Report any relevant additional information collected or observed in the field that could be of relevance for the decision making and the implementation of the activities
  • Participate to analysis of the local environment and understand needs, requests, technical or contextual limitations that might have an impact on the field operations.
  • Ensure that activities under his/her responsibility followed up
  • Participate in consultancy missions

IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATIONAL FOLLOW-UP

  • He/She will be in charge to take part on the joint health and breed inspection to validate the following characteristics of selected sheep
  • He/She supports the development of livestock distribution activities as defined in the proposal (support logistic team in terms of procuring healthy and productive sheep, monitor the health‘s livestock
  • He/she will monitor the vaccination (PPR and goat pox) and anthelminthic treatment of distributed animals
  • He/she will support the team to conduct a specific market assessment for sheep of local breeds, and conduct continuous market monitoring during the dry season
  • During the quarantine, she/he will be responsible for managing the sanitation and hygienic state of the quarantine warehouse and the fodder and water supplied.
  • Observe animals (sheep) for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behaviour; notifying veterinarians or managers as warranted.
  • Monitor animal care and transfer activities to ensure work is done correctly.
  • Train daily workers in animal care procedures and safety precautions.
  • Facilitate distribution in the field, and fill the documents needed.
  • Take part in logistical and administrative organization, planning, and preparation of livestock distributions.
  • Implement livestock distribution (sheep, fodder and Concentrate kit)
  • Create Breeders Groups (BGs) or breeders/Farmer Field Schools (FFS)
  • Ensure that each registered, identified beneficiary has benefited from sheep distributions.
  • After distribution has taken place, calculate and confirm the number of households which benefited, and the quantity of goods distributed
  • Facilitate and participate in designing of good animal husbandry best practices curricula, training manuals and extension methodologies and modalities
  • Provide technical theoretical and practical animal husbandry Knowledge, attituded and practices training
  • Ensure smooth communication/coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Irrigation (DoAI), during livestock distribution/implementation process,
  • Support the FSL supervisor in identifying para-vets/basic veterinary workers,
  • Provide training and distribute veterinary kits to identified basic veterinary workers/para-vets
  • Establishing breeder’s and basic veterinary workers/para-vets linkage linked to breeder’s animal health and vaccination.
  • With support of supervisor, develop sustainable business plan for assisting breeders with planning and extension of sheep production and productivities, directed at improving rural livelihoods.
  • Ensure the data collected and reports are safely archived/handed to the supervisor
  • Ensure the management of daily workers in the field if any and report any specific related issue to the Supervisor
  • Establish safety and security measures for each activity and ensure that these rules are respected by workforce under his/her supervision and by beneficiaries.

REPORTING/COMMUNICAITON

  • Keep monitoring tools and files archived at the organization International office
  • Archive distribution cards / censuses and lists of beneficiaries
  • Participate in the drafting of distribution reports
  • Take part in seminars and training workshops relating to livestock distribution tasks and to goal attainment.
  • Report to supervisor on the progress of activities and specific tasks assigned, problems encountered, the quality of relations with beneficiaries
  • Pass on any information or problems concerning his/her task, organization International programs, or safety aspects.
  • Analyse the humanitarian situation, taking protection problems into consideration/Do no Harm to the population.
  • Collaborate with local administration and authorities.
