Job Requirements:

Essential

  • University degree in a relevant domain.
  • At least 2-years of professional experience in a related position with a focus on education or protection programmes.
  • At least 1-year professional experience with local or international NGOs.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring staff or volunteers is essential.
  • Knowledge of Education in Emergencies, Child Protection and Prevention of Gender Based Violence minimum standards.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of teaching, positive discipline, children’s development and learning.
  • Experience in working with children, in social work and outreach activities, including psychosocial support and social emotional learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, nonviolent communication and listening skills.
  • Motivation and energy, pro-active and willing to share and discuss ideas.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
  • Commitment to The organization equal opportunity and gender practices.
  • Flexibility under pressure and in response to changing needs.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint).

Job Description:

Management, administration, and operation of education activities at area level:

  • Manage the implementation of non-formal education activities for school-age children in line with the needs of the local community and overall programme objectives;
  • Manage the education team in the area of responsibility and directly line manage the NFE Assistants;
  • Coordinate education assessments, outreach and registration activities;
  • Supervise and participate in Coaching activities, supporting and guiding NFE Assistants and Facilitators in planning and implementing NFE activities and provide regular feedback on quality and areas for improvement;
  • Work with the Education Training Officer to support activities implemented in formal schools including teacher trainings, mentoring and distribution of materials;
  • Collaborate with the Shelter and WASH teams to support the identification of schools for rehabilitation in line with community needs, organisational objectives and eligibility criteria;
  • Identify and report potential protection risks in non-formal education activities and spaces to the Area Coordinator and Protection team;
  • Coordinate with the NFE Assistants to identify referral pathways and map service providers in the areas of implementation, ensuring that they are functional, and when necessary support the NFE Assistants identifying and referring children and caregivers that could benefit from available specialised services;
  • Ensure the allocated Education budget at area level is used effectively and in line with the approved budget;
  • Organise and lead caregivers’ meetings and education team meetings;
  • Plan and monitor the distribution of teaching and learning material according to project budget lines;
  • Create a safe education environment and promote holistic student well-being;
  • Promote empathy, compassion and respect for the gender, ethnic, religious, cultural and learning diversity of students;
  • Adhere to The organization Code of Conduct and help to create and maintain an environment that prevents child safeguarding violations and promotes the implementation of the organization Safeguarding Policy.

Reporting and Education Information Management:

  • Ensure that relevant project data (e.g. attendance lists, registration forms) are accurately collected and stored, and comply with internal reporting systems;
  • Regularly monitor the progress of education activities against project plans, budgets and timelines;
  • Contribute to education needs assessments and support results-based planning;
  • Prepare timely and high-quality monthly reports and support the Education Manager in the preparation of progress and donor reports;
  • Support MEAL team, in developing and implementing M&E tools and data collection methods, which contribute to continual learning and programme quality;
  • Support in training enumerators on education tools for data collection such as Early Grade Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.

Representation and coordination:

  • Maintain effective communication with other Organization departments at area-level;
  • In collaboration with the Area Coordinator, liaise with Education Committees and schools to support the reintegration and attendance of children in formal education;
  • Meet with community stakeholders and main education actors to inform them about the programme, identify potential students and schools to support and involve them with the implementation process to support the reintegration and attendance of children in formal education;
  • Work with the Protection team, ensure protection principles are mainstreamed throughout the Education Programme and support the organisation and implementation of common activities and events;
  • Participate in area-level Education cluster meetings and organise bilateral coordination meetings with other partners in the area of operation.

Programme Development:

  • Identify staff training needs and support in the planning and delivery of capacity building for NFE Assistants and Facilitators;
  • Conduct staff Performance and Development reviews of NFE Assistants;
  • Develop education project objectives and work plans at area-level in collaboration with the Education Manager;
  • Organise and facilitate regular lessons-learning sessions with the NFE Centre teams and encourage the NFE Assistants and Facilitators to share ideas and exchange on good practices to contribute to continual improvements in Education programme;
  • In collaboration with the Education Team and Education Manager, contribute to the development and design of education programme and activities.

Other:

  • Take active measures to address equality issues, particularly relating to gender, in programme as well as operational activities;
  • Ensure the highest stands of accountability through ensuring good communication and information sharing within and outside the organisation.
  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of The organization’s policies and procedures (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management etc);
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Area Manager or Education Manager relevant to the achievement of NFE objectives;
  • Any other tasks assigned by the line manager in line with the overall response in the area of deployment
