Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in food Nutrition/hygiene, horticulture, Agriculture or Agriculture extension services
  • A minimum of 1 years practical experience in the implementation of a livelihood/nutrition/WASH project focusing mainly on horticulture
  • Working knowledge on horticulture or gardening techniques and conservational agriculture are required
  • Prior NGO/INGO experience of one year minimum
  • Experience from working as a FSL Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Experience in community mobilization/sensitization
  • Experience in implementation of emergency/recovery agricultural activities
  • Experience with implementation of project start-up (area targeting and beneficiary selection process)
  • Communication skills with relevant LA and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of MS Office Package
  • Knowledge of English (written, speaking) – as an advantage
  • Good understanding of the security context
  • Proactive and motivated
  • To travel between SI HASSAKE and RAQQA offices considering that SI have targets in both districts

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the line management:

  • Under the supervision of Deputy Program Manager, take part in the identification of sites and stakeholder mapping where work is to be carried out
  • Participate in the identification of new areas of intervention, carries out the diagnostics/assessments in the identified areas and data collection exercises
  • Conduct focus groups discussions and fill in the related collection tools with accuracy
  • Under the direction of the line manager, participate in beneficiaries’ needs identification and the selection of the beneficiaries according to standards and defined criteria
  • Communicate appropriately with the community as per the strategy defined by the management and make sure that the projects’ and the selection criteria are well understood and accepted by the communities
  • Under the supervision of DPM and in collaboration with WASH Hygiene Promotion team, conduct sensitization activities with beneficiaries
  • Report any relevant additional information collected or observed in the field that could be of relevance for the decision making and the implementation of the activities
  • Ensure good analysis of the local environment and understand needs, requests, technical or contextual limitations that might have an impact on the field operations.

IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATIONAL FOLLOW-UP

Under instruction of the Supervisor:

  • Carries out the activities as defined in weekly meetings with the line management, and as per the work plan communicated.
  • Support the preparation of BoQs when requested
  • Ensure accurate follow-up and monitoring of the activities in the field, using the SI’s standards and tools and provide technical support to beneficiaries, if needed.
  • Anticipate difficulties in the carrying out of the activities, propose adjustments according to the field understanding and the possible feedbacks from the community
  • According to scope of the activities, provide agricultural and hygiene promotion knowledge, attitude and practices training /awareness to beneficiaries and help in identifying the specific training needs among the beneficiaries
  • Ensure quality and quantity checks of the goods/services requested from local supplier, and ensure the following of internal procedures for releasing payments to suppliers.
  • Provide the supervisor with request regarding the materials, tools or services on regular basis according to the needs.
  • Ensure the good stock in/out of the project material when leaving/coming back from the field following SI’s procedures.
  • Manage the supply of worksite materials as instructed by the supervisor by collaborating with the logistic/supply department.
  • Ensure positive relationship and good communication practices with different support department.
  • According to SI technical guideline, provide training to all relevant beneficiaries to ensure the safe and appropriate use of distributed items/facilities.
  • Ensure the data collected and reports are safely archived/handed to the supervisor
  • Communicate with anticipation to the Supervisor on the needs that engage the support department
  • Ensure the management of daily workers in the field if any and report any specific related issue to the Supervisor
  • Establish safety and security measures for each activity and ensure that these rules are respected by workforce under his/her supervision and by beneficiaries.

REPORTING / COMMUNICATION

  • Under the supervision of his/her line manager, ensure that archiving procedures are followed and activities necessary files are archived.
  • Regulary report the progress of activities, through written reports delivered to his/her supervisor, identifying key challenges, successes…
  • Participate in any other reporting work that could be required by the Supervisor
  • Participate in internal team meetings and training/capacity building sessions and any other meeting related to the carrying-out of activities and to project objectives upon request
  • Report to the Supervisor any specific event or issue (related to the activities, the context, the beneficiaries) that requires to be addressed by the management
  • Ensure a respectful and regular communication with the communities and beneficiaries as per the strategy defined by the line management
  • Establish and maintain good relations with the local participants, communities and follow activities implemented by other organizations in SI’s area of intervention and report to the line manager
  • Have and promote a good behaviour on the field as SI’s employee.
  • Adhere to SI’s internal reporting tools to report any concerns on the behaviour of some SI members that may occur in the field to the management.
  • Take part in lessons learnt and Institutional Knowledge Building (IKB) workshop and program evaluation activities
