Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Medical university degree (doctor, pharmacist, nurse) or at least one year of work experience in nutrition field with INGOs for none medical backgrounds (females are preferred for this role).
  • Knowledge of child nutrition, with focus on infant and young child feeding practices, like breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and supporting optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all beneficiaries and their carers
  • Capacity to keep accurate records of activities and report in a timely manner
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Highly motivated, active, self-starter who can take initiative.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in community
  • Strong understanding of the situation of children (girls and boys)
  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources.
  • Good English/Arabic skills, written and spoken Kurdish is an advantage.
  • Good Computer skills
  • Commitment to and understanding of NGO’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches

Desirable:

  • Proven experience in counselling or community awareness raising
  • Familiarity with the Operational Guidance on IYCF-E , MIYCN, and SPHERE standards

Job Description:

  • Monitor implementation of OTP program
  • Facilitate Nutritional Supplies are delivered at each health facility to ensure the availability of supplies when needed.
  • Facilitate training and work closely with Health staffs in Health facility at district level.
  • Organize daily, weekly and monthly over view and reports of CMAM Program.
  • Ensure SAM children with complication are transferred to nearby ORGNIZATION to receive treatment.
  • Adherence to medical and nutritional treatment protocols and procedures for children and infants and PLW
  • Refer the SAM and MAM children who need medicines to relevant health facility
  • Receive weekly reports from Educators at weekly basis, cross check the completeness and accuracy, and submit to Nutrition officer
  • Mentoring and assist Educators in decision of patients who are at severe risks and need to be transferred to nearby ORGNIZATION or Hospital
  • Identifying patients who need to be transferred to ORGNIZATION, patients with failure-to respond to treatment and patients who need to be discharged.
  • Provide 1-1 individual counselling for PLW facing difficulties with feeding or care practices
  • Monitor the Nutrition group education session
  • Charge of OTP quality program implementation and monthly OTP activity.
  • Follow up absentees/defaulters and keep current record of both beneficiaries and the staff.

Human resource management

  • Responsible for line management of the Nutrition Educators.
  • Follow up staff attendance, leaves, and coverage during leave for the staff under her/his supervision.
  • Ensure regular feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process when needed.
  • Support disciplinary measures application if needed.

Other

  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
  • Comply with Organization policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • In agreement with line manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).
