Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in combination of the selective disciplines relevant to the following areas: Education; Primary Education, Economics, Social Sciences, or a field(s) relevant to international development assistance.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in Education in Emergencies, preferably in an INGO;
  • Previous work experience or involvement with Education Working Group activities is an added value to this role.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge of Education in Emergencies, particularly in a protracted displacement context.
  • Strong Coordination skills required to provide required support to EWG members.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills and the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Highly adaptable and able to cope with the pressure
  • Good negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Integrity, transparency, and strong work ethics.
  • Computer literacy skills including presentations.
  • Full professional proficiency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
  • Commitment to and understanding humanitarian principles, the convention on child rights and the Cluster/Working Group approach and relevant standards (Sphere and INEE)

Job Description:

Education Working Group Secretariat

  • Establish strong working relationships with all WG members in order to facilitate effective collaboration and communication.
  • Provide a translation for Education Working Group documents and events including capacity building initiative, WG e-mails to members
  • Minute Education WG meetings and support in facilitation as needed
  • Attend other WG and coordination meetings and interpectoral initiatives on behalf of the Education WG as requested by EWG Coordinator
  • As requested by the EWG Coordinator participate in OCHA and WoS initiatives
  • Ensure that the meetings and other events calendar of the Education WG is updated on regular bases.
  • Work with members to identify best practices, collect information on them and plan learning sessions
  • Follow up with members and provide guidance as needed on their enquires and requests
  • Assist new membership applicants Education WG membership application process and coordinate this also with Strategic Advisory Group (SAG).
  • Assist the WG members to clarify their membership status in coordination with the Information Management Officer
  • Perform duties relevant to the WG coordination work as requested by WG Coordinator
  • Support with translation as may be required.

Education Working Group Coordination

  • Assist the EW Coordinator with WG coordination duties which includes liaising with WG members via email, telephone, skype and in person.
  • Assist WG members on their daily requests in order to facilitate effective collaboration and communication.
  • As requested by WG Coordinator, coordinate with other WGs.
  • Assist the WG Coordinator in identifying humanitarian needs and response gaps in order to ensure a more effective inter-agency response.
  • Assist WG Coordinator on appropriate coordination with national authorities to the extent the political situation allows. This will involve liaising and working with relevant counterparts to support coordination mechanisms and simultaneous translation and taking notes during the meetings

Information Management

  • Support WG Coordinator and Information Management Officer in developing and/or improving Information Management mechanisms and data collection tools within the WG. This includes the development of standardized databases which can be used to capture relevant information for monitoring and planning purposes.
  • Liaise with Information Management Officer on the development of visual products and data-capturing systems in order to provide an effective service to WG members and the humanitarian community as a whole.
  • Liaise with the Information Management Officer on the preparation and analysis of member surveys (floods, winterization, impact of economical turndown etc)
  • Support conducting Education WG coordinated needs assessments, including participatory assessments and regular gap analysis.
  • Act as a focal point to ensure that the drop box/google drive/One Drive is uploaded with all relevant documents and updates in coordination with WG Coordinator and Information Management Officer
  • Regularly liaise with members to ensure timely and correct submissions of 4Ws, in close collaboration with WG Coordinator and Information Management Officer
  • Working with Information Management Officers and colleagues from Whole of Syria to provide regular dashboard and information management products
  • Contribute to draft bi-weekly reports on Education WG activities

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Assist WG Coordinator to develop simple and value-added monitoring strategies and tools.
  • Identify current monitoring methodologies used by different WGs and identify good practices that may be applicable to own area.
  • Assist WG Coordinator in monitoring and reporting responsibilities and in particular the preparation of reports and Information Managements products, Advocacy products, publications.

Information Sharing

  • Pro-actively share information with other WGs and WG members in coordination with WG Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the WG on identifying innovative ways of sharing information within the WG members and between different WGs.
  • Contribute the WG on identifying key pieces of information that will assist with the WG and organizational decision-making with a particular focus on improving humanitarian response in northwest Syria.

Capacity building

  • Assist in delivering training activities for Education WG members, other local partners, and relevant authorities.
  • Ensure that the logistical requirements of the capacity development initiatives are in place in terms of organizing venues, developing the lists of participants and that the other relevant logistical and administrative requirements are met.
  • Provide mentorship and support to members through the Humanitarian Program Cycle as requested.
