Job Requirements:

Skills Required

  1. Able to identify and diagnose different animal diseases, physiological disorders, and nutritional deficiency symptoms in sheep.
  2. Able to select animals for procurement based on breed parameters, assess the age of animals, formulate balanced feed rations, vaccinate animals, and advise best animal husbandry practices.
  3. Concern for others and respect for people of all ethnicities, religions, genders, and backgrounds.
  4. Attention to detail, anticipation, and follow-up are core values of the job function while maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality regarding contracts and salaries.
  5. Possesses strong organizational and problem-solving skills within a fast-paced environment.

Education / Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry, Animal Nutrition, Veterinary Sciences or related field
  • Agricultural/Animal Husbandry experience required (minimum two years of relevant experience)
  • Experience working with NGOs preferred

LANGUAGE

  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic required.
  • Proficiency in English is a plus.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

Job Summary

The Project Assistant – Animal Husbandry will work in direct support of the Veterinary Coordinator to implement the Livestock component of the livestock restocking and restoring project which includes procurement and distribution of 750 sheep, feed, fodder, and implementation of veterinary extension services. He/She will be responsible for distributing inputs to households, conducting training and veterinary extension visits, and advising on best practices on animal husbandry. The Project Assistant – Animal Husbandry will also assist in data collection for monitoring and evaluation. Job Duties:

  • Organize and conduct veterinary field training in line with project curriculum, targets, and objectives.
  • Conduct daily field visits to the beneficiaries for coaching and monitoring animal health and nutrition.
  • Provide technical assistance on animal husbandry and feeding practices while also serving as a general resource for beneficiaries.
  • Regularly meet with beneficiary households to check on progress towards livelihoods goals and conduct post-distribution monitoring.
  • Regularly report on program activities, success stories, lessons learned, and other relevant information to the Veterinary Coordinator and Program Manager.
  • Report concerns regarding a beneficiary and their family to the Veterinary Coordinator and Program Manager.
  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings.
  • Uphold the organization Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Veterinary Coordinator and Program Manager.
