Education / Experience Needed

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience of agriculture development and extension support within North East Syria
  • A good trainer and knowledge about agriculture training module design
  • Knowledgeable about irrigation systems for farming including water wells functionality

LANGUAGE

Arabic, English, Syriac and Kurdish are required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

Job Description:

Job Summary

The Agriculture Program Engineer will be responsible for the implementation of our organization Drought Resilient Vegetable Farming Project in NES.  S/he will collaborate with the Farmers, Farm inputs sellers, local partner, Local councils and other NGOs in planning and implementation of the project. The programme officer will also participate in other relevant organization programmed work assigned to him/her.

Job Duties:

  • Closely work with other project staff for the development of weekly and monthly agriculture plans.
  • Mobilize and identify farmers within the programme area to engage in vegetable production
  • Conduct baseline survey for with farmers in the programme area
  • In collaboration with our organization Agriculture TA, develop/adapt training modules on Good Agriculture Practices as per the project design. Ensure the training modules are appropriate to NES context
  • Facilitate training farmers on Good Agriculture Practices as per the project needs and design.
  • Support farmers on crop selection, modern farming, installation of drip irrigation, selection of new farmers and identification of individual farmers
  • Provide technical support on organic fertilizer use and local production of organic fertilizers
  • Provide technical guidance drip irrigation and other farm water management practices in response to the drought within NES.
  • Regularly organize community meetings to promote collective understanding and build the capacity of farmers
  • Empower farmers to understand the importance of the vegetables value chain system to promote market linkage
  • In coordination with Local partner (Syriac Cross), facilitate integration of our organization ministry activities into rural livelihoods project activities.
  • Develop field reports on a weekly – monthly basis and share them with the FSL Coordinator.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the FSL Coordinator and Programme Manager.
  • Be available to the programs full time during times of emergency response activation
  • Complete other activities as directed by the Line Manager and performing all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of our organization with a generous and serving spirit.
