Job Title: Program Assistant MHPSS

Job Requirements:

  • College qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience and/or excellent understanding of MHPSS for children/youth, child rights and child protection. Knowledge of adolescent development and gender an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and observation skills and capacity to maintain relations with government officials, local leaders, children and youth.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in conducting group activities with children and adolescents.
  • Experience facilitating sports activities, arts or other creative approaches with children and adolescents.
  • Comfortable in diverse environments and able to overcome language or other barriers to build trust with children and other stakeholders

Good capacity to cope with strong and unpredictable emotions in a very challenging environment

  • Creative and collaborative team player open to supervision and feedback
  • Proficiency in computer use including Microsoft Office and excel.
  • Commitment to and understanding of The organization ’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches and child safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources, and with remote management.
  • Good knowledge of Arabic, Kurdish; English as an added advantage.

         

Job Description:

  • Support the implementation of daily MHPSS activities for vulnerable and marginalized children/adolescents such as those who are living in restricted environments; majority of time will be spent in programming location.
  • Conduct contextualized MHPSS activities that have been developed by the organization staff and stakeholders in North East Syria in line with SOPs, including topics such as relaxation techniques, positive self-esteem and communication skills
  • Contribute to regular monitoring program sites carrying out MHPSS activities to ensure that the quality of implementation is up to organizational and international standards, based on quality checklists and quality benchmarks.
  • Ensure that weekly schedules of MHPSS activities are followed and that all children who meet the criteria to participate can freely engage in the activities.
  • Conduct and document observations in order to inform program quality and approaches
  • Ensure activity stock is regularly cleaned, maintained, monitoring, and requests for materials are raised timely.
  • Ensure that attendance data is collected accurately and inputted in the database on a regular basis following in all internal guidance and in agreement with key stakeholders’ arrangements.
  • With the support of the Programme team, support integration and mainstreaming efforts.
  • Work closely with the MHPSS officer to develop materials for other stakeholders and follow up trainings on site for those supervising MHPSS activities.
  • Provide information to stakeholders and partners on the methodology of MHPSS activities and opportunities to strengthen or revise approaches in line with needs and objectives.
  • Assist in the organizing and implementation of awareness sessions for key stakeholders and partners on MHPSS with vulnerable children in society
  • Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the conflict-affected children and the MHPSS programming needed to support them .
  • Provide relevant information for the drafting of weekly, monthly, progress and other reports, as required.
  • Liaise on a daily basis with partners, supervisors and colleagues to guarantee the smooth operation of the programs.
  • Prepare financial and administrative documentation related to project activities, such as purchase and procurement requests, etc.
  • Informing in a timely manner the direct supervisor about any challenges, difficulties and concerns in the implementation of activities or issues in the social context.
  • Any other duties, within reasons (based on skills and experience).

Other

  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of MHPSS, CAAFAG, child protection and child safeguarding, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
  • Comply with relevant the organization policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • In agreement with line manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).
