Job Title: Child Protection Coordinator

The Opportunity:

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

 

Programme Management

  • Prepare planning documents (detailed implementation plan, phased budget, HR plan, procurement plan) for his/her locations for the new awards.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, with the support of the Senior Child Protection Specialist, and ensure effective coordination between team members and with other sectors.
  • Undertake regular visits to the activities to supervise sessions and provide feedback and support.
  • Ensure effective community engagement, outreach, and the establishment and running of community-based child protection mechanisms.
  • Ensure all activities comply with all relevant organization policies and procedures, including child safeguarding, confidentiality and do no harm principles.
  • Ensure all Child Protection activities are in line with organization quality standards/benchmarks and NES and SRO approaches.
  • Proactively contribute to the donor reporting through timely submissions of quality reports including close coordination and working with partners on the same
  • Lead the development of monthly work plans with the team.
  • S/he should be updated of the CP trends on an ongoing basis so as to provide accurate context and needs analysis on child protection which support programme design.
  • Supervise, mentor, and manage team to ensure that the child protection activities are implemented effectively, in line with organization’s quality standards, approaches and child protection minimum standards.
  • Responsible for submitting all logistical requirements for the specified locations to the Area Manager on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining administrative files and all programme documentation, in compliance with donor requirements and internal standards.
  • Be innovative and open to initiate new ways of working (in coordination and consultation with Area management and technical teams)

MEAL and reporting

  • Ensure attendance databases are updated daily.
  • Work with IM and MEAL teams to ensure data collection is conducted according to organization SOPs.
  • Ensure the implementation of quality assurance tools.
  • Contribute to preparing quality and timely first draft reports for donors and management, as per the internal and external requirements.
  • Ensure effective monitoring in the assigned location and responsible for implementing feedback and recommendations.
  • Lead program monitoring processes including safety audits, child protection monitoring, Quality benchmarks and any support in data collection (in coordination with MEAL) with needs.
  • Work closely with MEAL to contribute to learning log and use findings from different monitoring processes to improve quality program implementation.

 

Staff leadership, mentorship, and development:

  • Working closely with the HR team, and in coordination with the Senior CP Specialist, to ensure timely recruitment, induction, and training of new staff.
  • Together with the Senior Child Protection Specialist, provide guidance and oversight for the child protection team in the specified location, ensuring that staff achieve the program’s expected results on time and within quality standards/benchmarks.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for organization staff and work as a mentor for less experienced staff.
  • Support Child Protection Officers to develop performance objectives and provide regular productive feedback, one-to-ones and performance reviews and support Supervisors to implement performance management and capacity development initiatives for themselves and with their staff.
  • Support child protection mainstreaming through induction and trainings of non-CP staff and lead coordination of different integration initiatives with other sector coordinators/teams.
  • Convene regular team’s technical meetings in coordination with Senior CP Specialist and where possible Case Management Manager to discuss integration of CP, including CM, with other sectors.
  • Follow up staff attendance, leave, and coverage during leave for the staff under her/his supervision and encourage staff to utilize leave for wellbeing purposes as intended.
  • Ensure regular productive feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process when needed.
  • Support disciplinary measures application when called upon.

Representation and coordination

  • Establish and maintain a strong relationship and liaise with local stakeholders.
  • Ensure safe referrals for the cases identified with child protection concerns while adhering to child protection principals such as confidentiality and best interest of the child.

Coordination and representation

  • Coordinate with other organization sectors and departments as necessary.
  • Participate in kick-off, close out, strategy meetings as relevant.

Other

  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
  • Comply with organization policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • In agreement with line manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).
  • Ensure strict compliance of self and colleagues with organization in NES’s zero-visibility policy and content collection policies regarding taking photographs of children.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, social work, psychology, and any related degree with demonstration of leadership skills and at least four years of experience in the child protection sector in humanitarian settings, with at least two years of experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrable commitment and experience in promoting the child’s right to protection.
  • Experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Good skills in budgeting.
  • Previous experience of team management, including recruitment and on-the-job training
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills.
  • Highly motivated, active, self-starter who can take initiative.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in the camps and community.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills, and capacity to maintain relations with community leaders, community member members, children, and youth.
  • Strong understanding of the situation of children in rural and urban communities.
  • Excellent understanding of the complexity of local governance structures in NE Syria and other local stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and willingness to change work practices and hours and spend time in the field, sometimes in difficult conditions and with limited resources.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), strong Arabic skills, written and spoken.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, including Outlook for email).
  • Commitment to and understanding of organization’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous programme designing and management experience.
  • Previous INGO experience a strong asset.
  • Experience of working with and supporting local partners
  • Background knowledge in child protection, education, child rights and emergencies
